Man Arrested on Suspicion of Domestic Violence in Gilbert

Posted on Sep 07, 2011

Lee Roy Rodriguez, of Mesa, has been accused of assault in Gilbert after an incident at his estranged wife's apartment on August 16, 2011. Sgt. William Balafas said the incident was reported while it was ongoing, and Gilbert police officers were called to the 3100 block of Market Street. At the scene, officers could not get a response at the door and had to break it down after hearing a woman screaming inside.

Balafas said that Rodriguez then attempted to flee, disobeyed orders from the officers, and resisted arrest. Rodriguez apparently grabbed one officer's bullet proof vest while they were attempting to take him into custody on suspicion of domestic violence.

Despite the scream, struggles, and attempts to flee, no one was injured at the site. Rodriguez is now in 4th Avenue Jail for aggravated assault on a police officer and suspected domestic violence, among other charges.
