Three-Vehicle Collision Ends with Suspect Held at Gunpoint

Posted on Nov 09, 2011

Around 6:30 PM on October 24, police arrived on the scene of a multicar accident on Stapley Drive and Eighth Avenue. The wreck was reported to be a hit and run, and five people were injured in three different vehicles. Police detectives have said that the wreck was caused when a vehicle travelling south on Stapley Drive ran a red light, hitting the other two vehicles involved. The driver of the southbound vehicle attempted to flee the scene before police arrived.

When police did arrive, they also found that a gunshot had been reported. As it turns out, a witness to the wreck had chased down the suspect with a handgun. When the witness caught the suspect, the suspect apparently punched the witness and caused him to discharge the gun into the air accidentally. The witness then forced the suspect to return to the scene of the wreck at gunpoint.

The injured people in the other cars were transported to a local hospital after the wreck. The suspect was also transported to the hospital, but his injuries were not expected to be life-threatening. It is expected that the suspect will face charges of DUI and aggravated assault.
