Traffic Stop Leads to Gilbert Meth Arrest

Posted on Jul 07, 2012

Arturo Garcia, of Mesa, was recently arrested after a traffic stop that included the use of drug-sniffing dogs. Police say Garcia’s vehicle was spotted speeding near the intersection of Warner and Gilbert roads and was later also observed to be weaving in and out of lanes.

When police attempted to pull Garcia over for the traffic violations, officers say that Garcia exited his still-running vehicle and was subdued by police. Police have stated that Garcia attempted to struggle with police and that he was pushed to the ground, tased, and handcuffed during the stop.

Police searched the vehicle and found cash and cell phone messages suspected to be related to the sale of illegal drugs. A K9 unit was brought in and found two bags of white powder that later tested positive for methamphetamine. A total of about 60 grams of methamphetamine was split between the two bags. Garcia was then arrested on suspicion of meth possession, aggravated assault, DUI, and reckless driving.
