Two Teens Arrested for Mesa Vandalism and Attempted Theft

Posted on Jul 17, 2011
Gilbert Martinez, 18, and Jake Dockerty, 19, were arrested on June 24, 2011 for suspicion of burglary, criminal damage, criminal trespassing, and underage alcohol consumption. The teens are suspected of vandalism and burglary at a Mesa condominium complex near McKellips and Horne roads. The incidents of vandalism and burglary occurred around 1:00 a.m. and affected at least five units. The teens admitted that they had been drinking alcohol before the spree.

Police were called after a Mesa woman returned home to the complex and found an open garage door at her unit. She contacted a neighbor, and the two then got in touch with the authorities after hearing people running nearby. The police commenced a search of the area and found Martinez and Dockerty hiding in a bush near the backyard of one of the condominiums. The police used K-9 units in the search.

Martinez apparently told the police that he was searching the garage with the intention to steal while his partner remained behind as a lookout. The teens also apparently told police that they had vandalized a car parked at the complex. The names of the residents affected have not been released.
